Super Storms

HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A TREE FALL? HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT THE HOUSE WILL SHAKE? HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT THERE WOULD BE A BAD HURRICANE? HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A BLIZZARD? HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT THERE WOULD BE RAINING TACOS IN THE SKY? This book will answer all your questions on weather.

First I will tell you all about hurricanes. Hurricanes are the deadliest storms in the world. I wanted to start with the scariest first and move to the least scary. Second I will tell you about tornados. You should get underground for that part of the story. Third I will tell you what I know about Blizzards. I live in New Hampshire so I have a lot to share. Lastly, I will share what I know about Thunderstorms. Put on your headphones to not hear thunder.

Hurricanes are the deadliest storms in the world! They can stretch for over 100 miles. The winds are between 74 and 200 miles per hour. They are really scary. They only form over really warm ocean water of 80 degrees or warmer. Hurricane Dorian was a Category 5 hurricane. It was the biggest Hurricane to hit the Bahamas. It then spread to the southeastern United States and parts of Canada. I looked up the 10 worst hurricanes of all time and they are:
#10. Harvey 9. Sandy 8. Camille 7. Gilbert 6. 1935 Florida Keys 5. Katrina
4. Maria 3. Galveston Hurricane of 1900 2. Mitch 1. The Great Hurricane of 1780

Tornadoes can happen any time of the year.  A tornado is a funnel cloud that is cone-shaped cloud that doesn’t reach the ground. Most tornadoes last only a few minutes. The most severe ones can last more than one hour. You need to stay underground if there is a tornado warning!!  You need to find shelter fast!  Here are the top 10 worst tornadoes in the world:

#10. The 1953 Flint-Beecher Tornado 9.New Richmond, WI Tornado 8.Amite, LA Tornado 7.2011 Joplin Tornado 6.The Glazier Higgins Woodward Tornado 5.Gaineseville, GA Tornado 4.Tupelo, MS Tornado 3.The Great St. Louis Tornado of 1896 2. The Great Natchez Tornado of 1840 1. The Great Tri-State Tornado of 1925.

Blizzards are number 3 on my list. A snowstorm is considered a blizzard when it has sustained winds of at least 35 mph and visibility is reduced to less than a quarter mile for an extended period, usually three or more hours. A snowstorm is considered a severe blizzard if the sustained winds are greater than 45 mph, near zero visibility and the temperature is below 10 degrees Fahrenheit.

The top ten worst blizzards in the U.S. are: 10. The Great Blizzard of 1899 9. The Great Storm of 1975 8. Blizzard of 1999 7. The Knickerbocker Storm 6. Armistice Day Blizzard 5. The Schoolhouse Blizzard (The Children’s Blizzard) 4. The Great Lakes Storm of 1913 3. The Storm of the Century 2. The Great Appalachian Storm of 1950 and #1 The Great Blizzard of 1888.

Lastly, I want to tell you about thunderstorms.  Thunderstorms can drop millions of gallons of water in just one minute.  There are lightening bolts during thunderstorms.  The sound you hear is BOOM!!!  Hailstones the size of marbles or even larger can happen during these storms.

I hope I answered all your questions about hurricanes, torandoes, blizzards and thunderstorms.  We did not end up seeing any raining tacos but I will be on the lookout!!!
